Training
BATPC offers a broad range of training courses and sessions, for example:-
Councillor Training: (2 hour sessions)
- New Councillor Induction Training Aims to take newly-elected councillors through the basics of being a parish or town councillor.
- Developing Chairmanship Skills This course covers the basics of the Chairman's role including: Role of the Chairman; preparation before a meeting; the agenda; chairing styles; managing the meeting.
- Intermediate Chairmanship Skills This course is aimed at Chairmen with some experience in the role and includes: Handling the public, press and visiting speakers; the public relations role of the Chairman; the council as an employer - the Chairman's role; dealing with harassment and bullying.
- The Council as an Employer Workshop aims to illustrate the importance of the council's role as an employer; to consider best practice in recruitment and appraisal; to develop strategies to avoid expensive mistakes.
Local Council Clerk:
- Core Skills A training course which takes Clerks and other officers through the basics of local council administration and prepares them to compile a portfolio of evidence to gain the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) - the nationally recognised qualification for clerks and other officers in the parish and town council sector. (6 x 2½ hour sessions.)
- CiLCA Revision A useful half-day refresher course which will work through the requirements to compile your portfolio, revising and clarifying each question.
Whole Council Power of Well-Being Training
- In order for a council to use the power of well-being, a number of eligibility criteria must be met including councillors attending a training session on the power and its use. We can deliver training in your parish or town at your convenience.
